Cruise ship jobs

Cruise jobs are available onboard world-class luxury liners, yachts, smaller vessels and steamboats. In addition, staff is needed also for the positions on land (customer service call centers, information technology departments, land excursion guides etc.) in US headquarters or numerous ports of call.

Cruise staff

Positions commonly needed by cruise lines generally fall into these four categories: office staff, personal care staff, hospitality and service staff, and entertainment staff.

There are no exact pay records available, but as a cruise ship staff you can earn between $1500 and $4000 per month (US Dollars). Each job requires a 7-day-a-week commitment. All the holidays in all the cruise ship jobs are used up at the end of the current job contract.

Normally the new hires are given job contracts for a period ranging from four to six months. If their performance is proven satisfactory, their contracts are prolonged for other two to three months. Return assignments are not uncommon, too. However, the money the ship employees receive (on monthly or weekly terms) do not cover the five to eight weeks of break before a new job contract is launched.

Life on sea

Cruise ship staff share cabins in threes or fours. Cabins are small and without windows, but each contains comfortable bunk beds, closets for personal clothes, a table, some chairs, and usually also a TV set.

Time off-duty can be spent in gyms, movie rooms or pools which are all located in she ship crew quarters and are for employment only. Ship guests have their own facilities where the staff is not allowed. Any disregard against contract rules will immediately disqualify the violator from their job as well as from the cruise ship.

Before considering this kind of job, you should self-critically evaluate your abilities to live in a floating city in itself with all it takes. Both the work and the life require a steady health and self-discipline. In return, there undoubtedly is a lot to acquire in one’s further personal and professional growth.
