There is a certain chain of command applied onboard cruise ships. The authority hierarchy starts with a boss of a department, or alternatively a supervisor in a department. The top boss onboard a ship is Hotel Director while the final decision maker and master of all the staff is the ship’s Captain.

Entertainment jobs

Disc jockeys, hosts and hostesses, dance instructors, performers, swimming instructors, shore excursion staff, expedition leaders, cruise directors and cruise staff.

Youth counselors, lecturers, photographers, bartenders/bar stewards, waiters, pursers, junior assistant pursers, cabin stewardesses, cooks, bakers, other food and beverage positions, cleaners, gift-shop assistants, lifeguards, casino staff, hotel managers, production staff and managers.

Personal care jobs

Medical staff, cosmetologists, beauticians, naturalists, massage therapists, fitness instructors, fitness directors, personal trainers.

Office jobs

These are onshore positions: office representatives, air/sea reservation agents, reservation specialists, sales and market positions, administration assistants, booking agents.
